6 Months Baby Food Chart, Indian Baby Food recipes, By six months, your baby will be completely ready for solids and showing signs of readiness. This post will help you decide what foods you can introduce at six months with sample food charts.  Prefer homemade foods to buying packaged or ready-made foods in the market because homemade is the safest and healthiest.

Also, remember that solids food can't replace the nutrients breastmilk or formula provides during the first year. So consider including solids in your baby's diet as complementary feeding. Please read on how to introduce solids to the baby before you plan a food chart for your six months baby.

What foods can be included in 6 months of a baby's diet?

This stage is a little tricky as six months is the start of solids. Safe, less allergic, easily digestible, healthy, and nutritious foods are recommended when you start solids for the first time. Here is the list of safe options you can include in a 6-month-old baby's diet.
Foods to Introduce at 6 Months | FOODS CAN BE INCLUDED IN 6 MONTHS OF A BABY'S DIET
    • Fruits: Apple, Avocado, Banana, Pears, muskmelon, Peaches, Plums, Prune
    • Vegetables: Carrot, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato
    • Cereals & Grains: Rice, Ragi, Barley, Semolina/Suji/Rava, sabudhana/Sago/Tapioca, Ragira/Amaranth/Phool Makhana, Quinoa
    • Pulses: Yellow Moong Dal
    • Dairy: Ghee, Butter (in moderation)
    • Non-Vegetarian: None

    How much quantity per day?

For the quantity of food, always be guided with your baby's hunger as appetite varies from baby to baby, and most babies change daily. Here is an approximate amount:

    • 1 tablespoon of fruit or veg puree. Gradually increased to 4 tbsp
    • 2 tablespoon of cereal. Gradually increased to ¼ cup

    6 Months Baby Food Recipes

Here is the collection of 6 Months Baby Food Recipes. Please customize the below sample charts with the mentioned recipes that can be included in 6 months baby’s diet based on availability, convenience, and your baby’s preference.

Sample Indian Food chart or Diet plan for 6-month-old baby:

One meal a day would do for a 6-month-old baby. Gradually you can shift to two meals around seven months. When you begin, start with small portions. Baby's first food should be semi-liquid. Gradually move to a thick consistency as your baby learns to eat.

Introduce one food at a time and follow 3 days rule, which will help determine allergic reactions to a particular food. Here are the sample food charts(weekly)  for 6 month old baby. You can customize these charts with recipes for 6 months of baby food based on availability, convenience, and your baby's preference.

    Notes :

    • Sterilize the bowls and spoons used for feeding your baby in a vessel with hot water for five minutes and keep it immersed in the same vessel until use.
    • Never introduce more than one food at a time when introducing solids to your baby.
    • Salt and sugar are not recommended in baby's food until 1 year of age.
    • Check for allergy symptoms when introducing new food to your baby, and stop feeding you if you find any symptoms.
    • Feed your baby with breastmilk or formula milk on demand other than the timings mentioned in the chart.
    • Always check with your pediatrician before introducing any new food.
    • Steaming is a healthy option for baby food than pressure cooking. So I prefer steaming using an Idli pot or steamer.

As a parent we are always worried about our baby's initial diet plans. Therefore in maximum time we used to consult our expert; most probably a baby is ready for solid foods after 6 months. Therefore we used to follow different diet plans to deliver good amount of nutrition and protein to our baby; here in this chart we have found the complete diet plan list of a 6 months old baby. I am really thankful to get this chart.

Hai its very use fulli like it very much...
My baby is gng to complete 5 months by this month end...
I already started Nestle (rice cerelac) my daughter is having tat same as formula milk(watery form) but I have one doubt my mil saying along with rice or ragi cerealc we have to add extra ingredients also like(Badam, nuts) or rice nd ragi together...

    9. gkfooddiary

      September 18, 2016 at 4:01 am

You can add badam or nuts. But make sure to introduce everything separate to rule out allergies. But I would suggest you to introduce nuts after 8 months once the baby's tummy is adjusted with basic foods, fruits, vegetables etc

Exclusive breastfeed or formula feed is recommended until 6 months. After 6 months, you can start solids

      Hi,

Thamks for the food chart and recipes.. Ots really useful. My baby girl is 7 months old and she is 17 pounds now. She is not at all drinking formula milk. And she drinks BM when she wants. I am worried how much milk shud be given during 7 months. She s having 3 solids per day.. but formula she never wants

    13. gkfooddiary

      April 18, 2017 at 3:56 am

For 7 months old, 2 solids per day is enough. Breastfeeding should be the major source till 12 months. If you cut down solids, baby can take more breastmilk.

      September 28, 2017 at 11:29 pm

only one meal and a optional snack (rest is bm) should be sufficient for a baby at this stage.. the more you feed the more your supply will be...you can also include garlic, oats and fenugreek to improve your supply

      Very useful receipe.Thank you
My daughter is six months old. I tried giving apple and banana puree she loved to eat but caught cold. My in law suggested it to give apple and banana during cold as it increases the cold.
Could you please suggest me fruits and veggies that can be given when baby has cold?

    21. Kalyani

Hi my son is 6mnths 22 days old and i am gonna join work back from 8th of November he was always on breast milk...... Can i pump in breast milk and freeze it so that my kid can have that twice instead of formula milk? I m gonna introduce him formula milk from tomorrow. Also could you please tell me the easy way and less time consumption to express breast milk?

    23. Kalyani

      November 01, 2018 at 4:30 am

You can buy a high-quality electric breast pump available in the market. If you can pump enough milk for a day, then you don't need to opt for formula at all. It depends on your supply. You can store the pumped breastmilk in the refrigerator for 6-8 hours, can be frozen for a couple of months. Also to get the hang of it, practice pumping for a few weeks before you start going to work.

Mam a big thanks to u,you are doin a good work. These food charts are really very helpfull.
Mam can u post some quinoa receipes nd from which month ,i can give quinoa.
I have a doubt mam as well.you said we can start curd from 8 th month but curd is also made from cow milk ,so is it ok to start before 1 year .

    43. Kalyani

      September 06, 2019 at 6:45 am

Quinoa can be given to babies from 8 months. check out this link for more details: https://gkfooddiary.com/quinoa-porridge-recipe-babies-toddlers-kids/
curd or other dairy products are digestible compared to cows milk. so only cows milk should be avoided until one year.

As I am having 6 month twin babies, can I give solid foods twice (afternoon & night) as BM is not enough for both. Both are not interested in FM.As I have to go for work in Feb, how to manage my twin babies during that time.

    47. Kalyani

      November 26, 2019 at 1:52 am

Yes, you can add a snack. Start expressing breastmilk, store, and feed. in that way you don't miss feeding BM even if you go to work

      Hi Kalyani Mam,
Hope yr fine , actually u told me to start solids after 6 months for my baby as we have spoken on 4th march 2020... My doubt is if im starting with apple puree for example from Day 1,2&3 after third day whether i need to give other food intro nor shud i wait for three day rule??? Becos in 6 month food chart continously u have given recipes na... So i asked u mam , In this three day rule what shud i give her ?? now she is drinking formula milk only.. Kindly advice..

Three days wait rule is a simple way to check possible allergic reactions including skin rashes, tummy troubles like gas or diarrhea or vomiting, poop troubles to new foods offered to your baby. Introduce new food at a space of 3 days apart. Means if you start with apple puree, repat the same puree for three days continuously. If no allergy symptoms for apple, then on day four, start another food, for example, banana puree. Hope it is clear now

Yes mam very clear thank u... And another thing is my baby is neglecting to have milk.. If she is having for eg. By 8.30 pm means till now not even one drop entered mam... But she is active as usual only... Is this also the sign of solid starter nor any problem... Before and all she use to have formula milk regular for every two to three hours gaps... But now she is refusing to drink if at all she is drinking means she use to keep some amount balance in her bottle.. Im scared little , becos last week she did the same for one full day without intake of milk, the
i comsulted pead doctor he examined her n told esr infection for her, also i mentioned she is giving 5 to 8 hrs gaps for drinking milk , he told that it is normal only but for me it is scared mam... Kindly advice pls
      Thank u by Revathi.S

Six months baby can have only a few tbsp. Don't worry, but make sure she gets enough breastmilk or formula. for constipation, try prunes, papaya, pear, etc. more information about constipation here: https://gkfooddiary.com/30-home-remedies-for-constipation-in-babies-toddlers/
