    Ingredients

    • Apple - 1 medium sized
    • Sweet Potato - 1 small sized
    • Water - as needed

    Instructions

    Preparation

    • Sterilize the bowls and spoons used for feeding your baby in a vessel with hot water for five minutes and keep it immersed in the same vessel until use.

    Method

    • Wash apple and sweet potato in running water well. Then peel the skin off from apple and sweet potato with a peeler. Then chop them into equal size small cubes. Steam the chopped apple & sweet potato pieces in a steamer for 10 minutes. You can steam it with Idli steamer plate by adding a cup of water or pressure cook it with a cup of water for two whistles. For both steaming and blending, I use
    • Philips Avent Combined Steamer and Blender
    • Once the apple & sweet potato are steamed, it will be soft and transparent. Now blend it with little water to a smooth paste in a blender.

    2. Once the apple & sweet potato are steamed, it will be soft and transparent. Now blend it with little water to a smooth paste in a blender.
Sweet Potato Apple Puree - step 2
Healthy and wholesome apple sweet potato puree is ready to feed your baby.
    Notes :
    • Try this puree with Red delicious & gala apple variety if your baby prefers sweetness in her food.
    • When selecting sweet potatoes, choose the ones with fewer brown or soft spots.
    • You can mash it with a fork instead of blending the apple and sweet potato.
    • Generally, apple /sweet potato doesn't cause any allergies, but check for symptoms and stop feeding your baby if you find any.
    • Always check with your pediatrician before introducing any new food.
    • Steaming is a healthy option for baby food than pressure cooking. So I prefer cooking using an Idli pot or steamer.

Even I use avent food processor for making homemade baby food. I have a query while steaming any vegetable or fruit the steamed water which gets collected in a jar after the food is cooked to be used in blending or to be thrown off . reason I am asking this...as I have read that vegetables contain pesticides so the cooked water should not be blend in baby food instead add fresh boiled water. Won't it affect the nutrition value of food ?

You can sure use the water used for cooking.,,if you are concerned about pesticides, wash them thoroughly using lemon/vinegar or choose organic veggies and fruits.

Solid foods should be introduced to the baby only after 6 months and avoid biscuits, prefer homemade foods instead. After your baby completes 6 months, Start with veg or fruit purees. Slowly move to soft mashed foods by a month or so. Banana, apple, carrot, pumpkin are great first foods. Next chikku, papaya, beets, bottle gourd, rice porridge, ragi porridge, etc. one meal a day will do for 6 months. Avoid salt, sugar, and honey until one year.
