     Green Gram Rice Recipe for Babies and Toddlers

    Green Gram Rice/Green Moong Dal Rice/Pachai payaru/Pasi Paruppu Sadam - Easy, quick, one pot, healthy meal with green moong bean and rice as main ingredients. Green gram is loaded with protein, iron and many other vital nutrients which is essential for baby's growth and healthy weight gain.

    This green gram rice is the best way to include green gram in your baby's diet, also it makes a wholesome lunch option for baby. The preparation is very easy, and the method is similar to the usual moong dal khichdi, with few minor changes. It can be given to babies from 8 months after introducing rice and green gram / green moong dal separately.

    Green Gram Rice Recipe for Babies and Toddlers

    Green Gram Rice - a Healthy meal made with rice and green mung bean, nutritious lunch option for babies.

    Ingredients

    • Rice - 1 tbsp
    • Green Gram- 1 tbsp
    • Homemade Ghee - 1 Tsp
    • Garlic - 1 clove
    • Cumin seeds- ¼ Tsp
    • Turmeric powder - ⅛ tsp
    • Salt - as needed salt is not recommended for babies under one year of age
    • Water - 1.25 cups

    Instructions

    • Wash rice and green gram together and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
    • Heat a pressure cooker with ghee. Add cumin seeds and garlic. Let it crackle.
    • Then drain the water from soaked rice and dal and add to the cooker. Mix well.
    • Add a pinch of turmeric powder and salt(for babies above one year) at this stage. Now add 1 cup of water
    • Close the lid of pressure cooker. Cook everything in a medium flame for five to seven whistles.
    • Open the cooker once the pressure released. Mash the rice well with your hands or with a masher. Feed your baby warm. You can also puree them in a blender.

    Method :

    Green Gram Rice Recipe for Babies

    Notes :

    • For older kids, add pepper powder or green chili for a spicy version.
    • Make sure to introduce everything separately before you try this recipe.
    • Always serve the green gram rice warm. Otherwise, it will become dry.
    • Any regular cooking rice can be used to prepare this recipe.
    • Always check with your pediatrician before introducing any new food.

      Super Recipe!! My Toddler loved it.. Pls suggest apart from rice any porridge which can be given for a filing dinner to my 1.5 year old. Is wheat porridge filing for dinner? Thanks in advance
