Vermicelli kheer/ Semiya Kheer/ Saviyan Kheer - delicious dessert made with vermicelli, jaggery and coconut milk/milk. I prefer chilled kheers for the summer once in a week as a quick desserts. Vermicelli kheer is one of the easiest kheer recipe that you can make even at the last minute when guests arrive or for any special occasion. I made this kheer with jaggery and milk this time, but sometimes I used to make with coconut milk too. Once you tastes this kheer with jaggery, am sure you will not opt for sugar ones. This vermicelli kheer can be given to babies after one year.

Vermicelli Kheer Recipe (with Jaggery) for Toddlers and Kids | Quick Desserts
Ingredients
- Vermicelli - ½ cup
- Water - 1.5 cups
- Milk - 1.5 cups
- Jaggery - ½ cup
- Cardamom - 1
- Ghee - 2 tsp
- Cashews - 5
- Raisins- 1 tbsp
Instructions
- Keep all the ingredients ready. In a pam dry roast the vermicelli until golden brown.
- Then add required amount of water to the roasted vermicelli and cook it covered until its cooked well and turns transparent.
- In the meantime, ghee fry the cashews&raisins and keep it ready. Heat jaggery in a pan with water till it immersed level until its melt completely. Then strain the jaggery water using a strainer to remove the impurities. Also boil the milk and keep it ready.
- Once the vermicelli is cooked well, add jaggery water with a teaspoon if ghee and cook it further in low medium flame with occasional stirring for 5 minutes. Once the jaggery is well mixed with the vermicelli, switch off the flame .
- Now add boiled milk at room temperature to the vermicelli and then add ghee fried cashews & raisins. Mix well .

4. Once the vermicelli is cooked well, add jaggery water with a teaspoon if ghee and cook it further in low medium flame with occasional stirring for 5 minutes. Once the jaggery is well mixed with the vermicelli, switch off the flame .
- Add milk at room temperature, otherwise the kheer may get curdled if hot milk added to jaggery. When you use jaggery and milk together, either jaggery or milk should be at room temperature to prevent curdling.
- Always use whole milk or thick coconut milk to get thick kheer.
- You can add more jaggery than mentioned for extra sweetness.
- Skip whole cashews or raisins for small babies as they lead to choking hazard. Instead add nuts powder.
- Always check with your pediatrician before introducing any new food.
- This vermicelli kheer becomes little thicker when cooled down. So switch off the flame when it is little thick. Add little milk while serving if it becomes too thick.
- Make sure to introduce each ingredient separate before you try this sweet potato kheer to your baby.
