Ingredients

  • Whole Wheat Flour - ¼ cup
  • Apple - 1 medium-sized apple
  • Dates - 3 nos
  • Jaggery powder or sugar - 1 tbsp optional
  • Homemade Ghee - 1 tsp
  • Water - ¾ cup

Instructions

Preparation

  • Sterilize the bowls and spoons used for feeding your baby in a vessel with hot water for five minutes and keep it immersed in the same vessel until use.

Method

  • Keep all the ingredients ready. Soak dates in hot water for 5 minutes. Peel the apple with a peeler. Remove the seeds. Chop them into cubes.
  • Puree the apple using a blender along with soaked dates without adding any water. For blending I use
  • Philips Avent Combined Steamer and Blender
  • Take 2 tablespoon of wheat flour in a pan and add ghee. Roast it in low flame for 5 minutes until a nice aroma comes. Take care not to burn the wheat flour.
  • Then add ¾ cup of water to it. Mix it well with a whisk so that no lumps are formed. Cook the wheat in low, medium flame for 5 minutes or until the wheat gets cooked entirely and becomes shiny. Stir it continuously while cooking; otherwise, it may stick to the vessel. Once it is cooked, add pureed apples and jaggery powder (if using).
  • Mix well. Cook it further for three more minutes with continuous stirring. Switch off the flame when it becomes thick. The halwa becomes a little thick after cooling down. So switch off the flame accordingly.
