Green Gram Porridge Recipe for Babies, Toddlers and Kids | Whole Mung Porridge

Green Gram Porridge - healthy porridge recipe with green gram. Helps in healthy weight gain for children and fills the protein need for lactating moms.

Ingredients

  • Whole Green Gram - ¼ cup
  • Cardamom - 1 or cardamom powder - ⅛ tsp
  • Water - as required
  • Palm Jaggery/ Jaggery - ¼ cup + 2 tbsp
  • Salt - ¼ tsp
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp

Instructions

  • Wash and soak green gram overnight. Next day morning or after 4-6 hours, drain the water and place the soaked green gram in pressure cooker along with salt. Add required water and pressure cook everything for 3-4 whistles in medium low flame.
  • Open the pressure cooker once pressure released. Transfer the pressure cooked green gram to a blender. Reserve some cooked green gram to add to the porridge as such if preparing this porridge for older babies or adults. Grind the green gram with water (used for pressure cooking the green gram) to a smooth paste. Set aside.
  • Take jaggery along with cardamom in a pan and add water till it immersed level. Let the jaggery melts completely.
  • Then add ground green gram paste along with reserved cooked green gram to the melted jaggery. Mix everything well. Add water if required. Boil the porridge in low medium flame for 5 minutes.
  • Once the porridge consistency is reached, add a tablespoon of ghee. Give a quick stir and switch off the flame.
